This year’s AGM took place back in person for the first time in 3 years. It was great to get back together and the Quaker Meeting House was full with a good number of attendees.
We had lots to celebrate! First, we have reached a major generation milestone – 1 million kWhs! That means in the 8 years of generation we have produced enough green electricity to power 300 homes for a year. We have also contributed £16,000 in community benefit funding and generated over £260,000 in revenue.
Members agreed to fund a new community project this year which helps residents of the Gleadless estate combat fuel poverty. Volunteers are helping residents by using thermal imaging to target heat loss, and provide simple insulation and draught-proofing solutions. The group is also partnering with SAVTE on an environmental education programme and engaging the council to push for improvements to the most negatively affected properties.
Changes in personnel also took place. We welcomed our new Company Secretary, Lewis Dagnall. Lewis will take responsibility for the role from Jean Tinsley. Jean has been the back-bone of the organisation for many years and was thanked with loudest round of applause from the audience for her service to Sheffield Renewables. We also thanked Christine Gilligan who has been a long standing Director and this year will step back to concentrate on other commitments.
Finally, there was lots of encouragement around new projects in the pipeline. We were joined by the team behind Fiver Rivers Co-Housing, a volunteer led group building 22 housing units and a Common House to support communal living. We will be installing 12kw of solar panels on the Common House powering their air source heat pump, laundry, communal kitchen and guest rooms. The panels will generate around 9,500 kWh per year. We hope to install in April and the site is planned for completion towards the end of the year.
Thank you again to all our members for their continued support and encouragement.
